FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - San Jose, CA - BaySpec, Inc., a leading manufacturer of miniaturized analytical instrumentation, announces the Portability™, a portable mass spectrometer offering highly sensitive detection in a transportable size weighing less than 17 lbs. (7.7 kg.).

Transportable/Portable Mass Spec-based Chemical Analysis

Mass Spectroscopy (MS) has long been accepted as the gold standard for chemical analysis with respect to selectivity, detection limits and broad applicability. To date, MS has been primarily used as a lab-based instrument weighing typically 100~500 lbs and requiring heavy vacuum pumping stations and dedicated power supply.

BaySpec's innovative approach to field-portable instrumentation utilizes a novel mass analyzer design to develop a highly portable MS for the purpose of for rapid chemical detection (1~5 seconds) of unknown substances with high selectivity and sensitivity (ppb level).  The intuitive software interface includes built-in supports for library searching and reporting.

Instead of bringing samples back to the laboratory, detection, identification, and analysis can be completed in the field.  No need to wait for answers.

Major Benefits/Advantages:

Ambient desorption ionization ms (ADI-MS) compatible

Fast analysis time and data reporting 1~5 seconds

Detection of positive and negative ions

Low ppb level detection

MS/MS compatible

Can operate in the field on battery power and/or 24V, 12V

By combining different sample collection systems, a wide range of chemical compounds can be detected, i.e. explosives, narcotics, CWAs, TICs, pesticides, etc.

The Portability™'s compact size and low power consumption allows for use of mass spectrometry on industrial production lines, as continuous monitors in waste sites, at airport checkpoints, physicians' offices, and even in the office or family homes.

The Portability™ Mass Spectrometer will be demonstrated at the SciX FACSS Conference, Sept. 28- Oct. 3, 2014.  To schedule a demonstration or meeting, please contact BaySpec at sales@bayspec.com or call +1(408)512-5928.

About BaySpec

BaySpec, Inc., founded in 1999 with 100% manufacturing in the USA (San Jose, CA), is a vertically integrated spectral sensing company. The company designs, manufactures and markets advanced spectral instruments, from UV-VIS spectrometers to portable/transportable NIR, SWIR and Raman analyzers, hyperspectral imagers and Raman microscopes, and Mass Spectrometers for the homeland security, military/defense, forensics, R&D, biomedical, pharmaceuticals, chemical, food, semiconductor, and the optical telecommunications industries.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- San Jose, CA -- BaySpec, Inc., a leading provider of miniaturized spectral engines, introduces the OCI-UAV™, a new ultra-compact version of its award winning OCI-Series Hyperspectral Imagers.

OCI-UAV™ Series Hyperspectral Imager

The OCI-UAV™ hyperspectral camera is designed specifically for use on unmanned aerial vehicles/systems (UAV/UAS), remotely operated vehicles (ROV), or anywhere needed. Without compromising performance in this small form factor, the OCI-UAV™ with miniature single-board-computer acquires VIS-NIR hyperspectral data with continuous spectral and spatial coverage.

Operating the OCI-UAV™ is automatic and requires minimal human set-up. The OCI-UAV™ design features signification reduction in size (camera head only 8 cm x 3 cm x 3 cm with a computer 10 cm x 7.5 cm x 3 cm) and weight (approximately 0.6 lb., ~272 g), and faster data transfer rate (up to 120 fps) with automatic data capturing and processing.
Key Features/Benefits:

• Effortless integration to existing camera-ready systems
• True push-broom (OCI-UAV-1000™) and snapshot (OCI-UAV-2000™) with computer and storage packaged together in an extremely compact package, specifically design for UAV/ROV applications
• Fast frame rate up to 120 fps
• Innovative non-slit design significantly reduces system complexity
• Less dependent on image orthorectification
• Real-time image data preview
• Ready-to-fly UAV system with Mission Planner available

sUAV Applications

Unlike conventional hyperspectral imagers, which rely on intensive software efforts for orthorectification, the
the OCI-UAV-1000™ features innovative "True Push-broom" where the imager can move to scan at random speeds. The OCI-UAV-2000™ is a snapshot multispectral imager that fundamentally eliminating artifacts caused by vibrations in flight. These advancements significantly reduce requirements on UAV/ROV integration.

BaySpec also provides ready-to-fly hyperspectral total solutions. Augmenting the extreme compactness with uncompromised performance, automatic operation and data processing make the OCI-UAV™ a straightforward system for applications, such as: precision agriculture, airborne mini UAV/ROV, remote sensing, ground survey, forest survey, environmental studies, law enforcement, forensics, security and defense, mining and geology, oil and gas exploration, ocean monitoring, among others.

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 9 -- United States Patent no. 8,829,425, issued on Sept. 9, was assigned to BaySpec Inc. (San Jose, Calif.).

"Apparatus and methods for creating a vacuum in a portable mass spectrometer"

ABSTRACT
A portable or handheld mass spectrometer making use of a cryogenic pumping, ion pumping or getter pumping system. The portable mass spectrometer contains a cryopump, ion pump, or getter pump, and operates in conjunction with a fixed docking station. The docking station contains a backing pump to bring the mass spectrometer manifold down to operating pressure prior to being placed into portable operation using the cryopump, ion pump, or getter pump. The individual pumps may be operated either separately or simultaneously. This configuration permits the portable mass spectrometer module to be small, lightweight and rugged, and yet be easily and quickly recharged and regenerated for use in either a field or laboratory environment.
